Goddess Lakshmi is the Goddess of abundance; light, wisdom, fortune, beauty, luck and fertility. The word Lakshmi is derived from the Sanskrit word Lakshya means aim or goal. In Vedas she is worshiped for her auspicious nature.

Ashta Lakshmis are eight manifestations of Goddess Lakshmi who presides over eight forms of wealth. They are Aadilakshmi, Dhanyalakshmi, Dhairyalakshmi, Gajalakshmi, Santanalakshmi, Vijayalakshmi, Vidyalakshmi & Dhanalakshmi.

They represent possible states of mind in which devotees can focus. All the eight fold Mahalakshmi is ultimately one single power, That is Adi Sakti. She is the origin, the power, the wisdom and strength.

Sri Suktam is a Siddhi mantram and is a radiant mass of energy. For the adoration of Lakshmi there is no hymn equal to Sri Suktam.

Sri Yagam or Sri Lakshminarayana Yagnam, prescribed by Maha Vishnu to Brahma. This is done for prosperity and Loka Kalyanam (world peace). All human beings seek happiness. Happiness comes from good health, wealth, name & fame, possession, Good relationships etc, depending on one's own personal desires. We need divine blessings to achieve happiness.

Chanting Shree Suktam 32,000 times and Purusha Suktam 16,000 times over nine days

Shree Suktam

Sri Suktam, is a Sanskrit devotional hymn revering Goddess Sri or Lakṣmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth, prosperity fertility and abundance. Sri Suktam is recited, with a strict adherence to the Chandas, to invoke the goddess’ blessings. The hymns are found in the Rig Veda. The goddess Sri or Lakshmi is the personification of auspicious and royal qualities. The Sri Suktam describes Sri as glorious, ornamented, royal, lustrous as gold, and radiant as fire, moon and the sun. She is addressed as the bestower of fame, bounty and abundance in the form of gold, cattle, horses and food.

Purusha Suktam

Significance Of Purusha Suktam: Purusha Suktam is one of the Pancha Suktam (5 Suktams) – Purusha Suktam, Vishnu Suktam, Sri Suktam, Bhu Suktam, and Nila Suktam. From the oldest Rig Veda, Purusha Suktam is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, who is described as the great Purusha in the hymn. The mantras in this hymn are written in a meter (15 in the anustubh meter, and the final one in the tristubh meter) that has the power to generate a tremendous positive spiritual force. Purusha Suktam is also recited during Homas (Fire Labs) or statue installation rituals, and during meditation.

Ritwiks

100 plus Ritwiks will be part of the Yagam chanting Shree Suktam and Purusha Suktam.

With the Anugrahams of Perumal, Piratti and Acharyas, our Hindu Temple of Atlanta is honored to perform Sri (Lakshmi Narayana) Yagam, from NOVEMBER 19 to 28, 2021 during the holy Karthika Masam.

Sri Yagam will be conducted over 9 days, comprising Abishekam (Thirumanjanam) and Homam, done with Goshti chanting of Sri Suktham and Purusha Suktham. Sri Suktham, one of the Pancha Sukthams from the Rig Veda is chanted at all pujas for Goddess Lakshmi. Purusha Suktham is typically chanted to invoke Lord Maha Vishnu.

To complete the Sri Yagam as per sastras, we plan to have priests and ritviks chant together Sri Suktham 32,000 times & Purusha Suktham 16,000 times during the Abishekams. Sri Suktha and Purusha Suktha Homams will be performed with chanting exactly half that number. To reach the above total counts, we will need a minimum of 150 ritviks who can be at the function for at least 7 days.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Performing Sandhyavandanam 3 times daily, for atleast 30 days before commencement of the program. This is even a pre-requisite to learn Veda.
  • Complete at least 1008 Gayatri Japam before the 1st day of the event. It should be done in one sitting – you are free to choose any day at your convenience. This is primarily to help focus and enhance our concentration.
  • You should have learnt Sri Suktham & Purusha Suktham from a Guru. If you have learned from other sources, please email htasriyagam@gmail.com so that we can schedule a session with one of our priests.

KINDLY SIGN UP AS A RITVIK USING THE Registration Link below AT YOUR EARLIEST CONVENIENCE, SO THAT WE CAN GET AN ACCURATE COUNT WELL IN ADVANCE OF THE EVENT.
