Sri Vainate:ye:sthi – “For Good Children”

Santa:nam or one’s offsprings are the uninterrupted succession to one’s family. Santa:nam spreads the essence of the family for generations to come.
It helps the constant flow of the dharma:s (righteous acts), Acha:ra:s (customs) and samprada:yas (traditions) in new ways. Santa:nam should not only resemble ourselves but also should represent our traditions, objectives, goals and desires in life. Santa:nam that help give our traditions to the next generation is the “SatSanta:nam” (Good Children).
Satsanta:nam strengthens the Family sentiments and traditions generation after generation even amidst all unforeseen obstacles. The Family without Satsanta:nam remains dark like a forest with shining moonlight. In order to make our lives meaningful, we need to have Good children. Those children should be the ones that look after of their parents in their oldage. Those children should be the ones that carry on our customs and traditions to the next generation. With that very objective in mind, King Dasaradha had performed the “Putra Ka:me:shti” ya:gam in Tre:ta:yugam and was blessed with four sons – Lord RAma, Lakshmana, Bharata and Satrughna, who have remained the forever the true role models of character for future generations. What should an ordinary human being should do? How does one get out of the curse of “aputrasya gatirna:sti” ? – These are the questions raised by Lord Brahma, the well-wisher of the Universe to Lord Vishnu. “Vainate:ye:shti” is the answer given by Srimannaryana to Lord Brahma in order to have satsanta:nam.
Being infertile or not having children can be attributed to many such reasons as Na:ga do:sham, ra:ga do:sham etc. The vedic procedure performed to remove such do:shas (evil effects) is called “Vainate:ye:shti” . It is also called “Putra Ka:me:shti”.
