It is said “The uneducated is the weird animal”. Education does not mean being just literate.
The knowledge that enables us to – identify the onset of a problem, face it without fear, solve it in an intellectual manner and move ahead with courage – is called ‘Vidya’ or Education.
Education is quite essential to everyone – The students, employees, householders, businessmen, everyone – without any distinction. Everyone in every field and every one in all walks of life need good Education. The Ishti that blesses us with such Education is “Hayagrive:shti”.
The God with a human body, a horse face and four arms is Lord Hayagriva, the personification of all knowledge. “Haya” means ‘knowledge’, and “Griva” means ‘neck’ which means one who holds all the knowledge in his throat. He is adorned with Sankha and Chakra in his two hands. While His right hand is adorned with “Aksha Mala” and ‘Gna:na Mudra’, his left hand holds a book. Lord Hayagreeva, white in complexion, resides with His consort Lakshmi in a beautiful red lotus flower.
He had preached Vedas to Chaturmukha (the four-faced God, i.e. Lord Brahma) in this very form. He made Saraswati as the personification of all knowledge and all Gods of knowledge have benefited from Lord Haygreeva’s grace. It is said that Aditya has preached ‘Sukla Yajurveda’ to Yagnavalkya maha muni in this form. Haya mukha or horse face is the symbol of knowledge in all Sha:stra:s.
Lord Srimannarayana has told Lord Brahma that those who pray Lord Hayagreeva are graced with higher Education, great prestige. In order to proceed for higher studies and acquire wonderful knowledge which will help to secure the most powerful and ultimate fruit, one needs to worship Hayagriva. Out of kindness, Lord Hayagriva grants knowledge which is powerful, abiding and splendid and from which one may profit immensely.
